The Heart of the Houston Metropolitan Area

The city of Bellaire lies in the heart of the Houston metropolitan area. Its surroundings include Houston, West University Place, and Southside Place. With a population of just over 17,000 residents and a land area of 3.6 square miles, the family-friendly neighborhood is known as the “City of Homes,” due to its mostly residential character featuring oak-lined streets and custom built homes. Properties in Bellaire are a mix of 1950’s and 1960’s ranch homes and brand new mansions. The city also boasts a good number of parks, upscale amenities and award-winning schools. At 3.7%, the unemployment rate is low and the average commute time is under 20 minutes.

The city functions as a residential community with a high quality of life thus promoting a great family atmosphere. Its small-town charm combined with the great conveniences of a major city makes Bellaire one of Houston’s most popular neighborhood – no wonder it was ranked at no. 10 in the “50 best suburbs in America” list by businessinsider.com in 2015.

A Great Place to Live

One of the advantages of living in Bellaire is its excellent location. Residents enjoy convenient access to schools, retail areas, restaurants, entertainment centers, and parks. Because of its great accessibility via Loop 610, the Southwest Freeway, Bissonnet Street and Bellaire Boulevard; residents are well connected to all the surrounding areas and have great access to key areas like the Museum District, Downtown, Galleria and the world-renowned Medical Center. Other reasons why people love the area include the various cultural events, proximity to pro-sports arenas and excellent city services.

As an independent city, it has its own police and fire departments. Business and employment hubs are also nearby. The city has a large number of retail and professional businesses to service the community – it is home to home to several large businesses such as Chevron, CenterPoint Energy and the Foundation Surgical Hospital.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation

There are loads of excellent parks and recreation programs, as well as great outdoor spaces in the city – meaning outdoor space and recreational activities are right on your doorstep. The area has 14 parks featuring many amenities and plenty of green space for relaxing or enjoying a picnic with family and friends. There is even a dog park – The Officer Lucy Dog Park; where pampered pooches can run and play. The Bellaire Town Square Family Aquatic Center provides plenty of fun for the whole family. Features includes a 14-foot dive well, lap lanes, splash pad, and a waterslide. The Recreation Center features a fitness room and a variety of programs for all ages. The city is also home to the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center.

Shopping in Bellaire

Whatever your age or family composition you’ll struggle to get bored. The city has many great amenities including a quaint downtown area – with several shopping and dining options to choose from. Also, for those who love shopping, Bellaire is merely minutes away from Houston’s Galleria mall. The Galleria, is Texas’ largest shopping center and fourth largest, nationally. The Galleria has over 400 shops and restaurants beneath its stunning atriums, two high-rise hotels, three office towers and a full-size ice-skating rink. The mall’s anchor stores include Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., Nordstrom, Burberry, Gianni Versace and Cartier Nordstrom and Macy’s.

Education

The neighborhood has some of the best schools in the area and is within the same zone as the Houston Independent School District (HISD). The schools in Bellaire have a reputation for excellence in both education and extracurricular activities. Many of Bellaire’s public schools are also ranked amongst the top in the state of Texas. The city is home to Pin Oak Middle School (a National Blue Ribbon School) and Bellaire High School – one of the best secondary schools in the area. It also has a legacy for producing championship baseball teams.
