Montrose is a primarily residential neighborhood located in the Neartown area of Houston, and is one of Houston’s older neighborhoods. With a population of just over 21,000 residents, the neighborhood is a diverse area known for its Bohemian flavour. Montrose is one of Houston’s cultural centers home to many art museums featuring pieces from world-renowned artists. There are loads of parks in Montrose including Ervan Chew Park (a neighborhood park that allows dogs off-leash in a designated area) and Buffalo Bayou Park. Buffalo Bayou Park is 160-acre park with a 10-mile waterway. It has many features including five-foot-wide asphalt footpaths, the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area, Sandy Reed Memorial Trail and the Johnny Steele Dog Park.

Education

Montrose is zoned to the Houston Independent School District (HISD). It is zoned to some of the best schools in Greater Houston. Neighborhood schools include several International Baccalaureate World Schools such as Poe Elementary, Lanier Middle School, and Lamar High School. High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) is located in Montrose. It is a highly sought-after Fine Arts magnet school. Montrose also has many notable private schools nearby.
