Lazybrook/ Timbergrove

A Renovated Neighborhood

Lazybrook and Timbergrove Manor (together known simply as “Lazybrook/Timbergrove”) are adjoining, deed-restricted neighborhoods situated roughly 7 miles northwest of Downtown Houston. Located within the 610 Loop and west of the Houston Heights, Lazybrook/Timbergrove is situated along the banks of White Oak Bayou within the near northwest quadrant of the city.

Initially settled by German farmers in the late 1800s, this neighborhood was the site of a significant oil discovery in the 1930s called “Eureka.” Reminders of its distant past can be found in a nearby railroad yard, presently referred to as the Eureka Yard. St. John’s German Lutheran Church, one of the first churches built by early settlers in 1891, also still exists but currently resides within Sam Houston Park in Downtown.

A Great Place to Live

The Lazybrook/Timbergrove community has seen great improvement with all the remodelling and tear-downs of the neighborhood’s first mid century homes. With very close proximity to The Heights, one of Houston’s most desirable areas, residents enjoy the convenience of what of The Heights has to offer without the high cost of living.

Presently, the community mostly comprises of mid-century, one-story ranch style brick houses. Lazybrook/Timbergrove enjoys a renaissance as demand increases for close-in homes in Houston. Residents have noticed a transition due to original-owners and retired neighbors moving out whilst young professionals have begun to move into the neighborhood at an increased rate. Beside the anchoring areas of Lazybrook/Timbergrove, upscale townhome developments like Timbergrove Heights, Timbergrove Point, Timbergrove Terrace, Timbergrove Gardens and Heritage Creek are all within the larger neighborhood area.

The northwestern corner Lazybrook/Timbergrove extending just outside of Loop 610 comprises of Brookwood, the Brookhollow business park, Northwest Mall, the Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) headquarters and the Delmar Stadium complex.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation

The City of Houston is the operator of parks inside and around the Lazybrook/Timbergrove neighborhood. Local parks comprise of West 11th Street Park, Timbergrove Manor Park, Jaycee Park and T.C. Jester Parkway.

The West White Oak Bayou Trail starts in Timbergrove Manor and runs across the banks of the bayou, parallel to T. C. Jester Boulevard, beginning from 11th Street, through both Lazybrook and Oak Forest. The White Oak Bayou Trail gives cyclists and pedestrians a generous 7.4-mile-long (11.9 km) mainly asphalt and concrete trail. Passing through many local parks, the trail is fully lighted and is fixed with protective railings in many areas.

Shopping

Alhough there are a few shopping options which lie within Lazybrook/Timbergrove, many residents choose to venture beyond the neighborhood to surrounding shopping points. Local shopping resides largely along Highway 290, with occasional boutiques within the area. Residents typically venture to the adjoining Spring Branch or The Heights neighborhoods for grocery shopping. Lazybrook/Timbergrove homes a WalMart which also includes a grocery department, but for those looking for a greater selection of choice, HEB and Kroger’s prove much more popular. Though Lazybrook/Timbergrove does not host any farmers markets, The Heights provides great opportunity to stock up on fresh produce with stores like Revival Meats for high quality meat and Canino Produce.
