Rice Village is a shopping district in Houston and one of Houston’s oldest shopping centers. Located west of Rice University’s campus, the Rice Village has grown to become one of Houston’s popular shopping destinations. It is known for its many small and eclectic shops and boutiques. Originally, “Rice Village” extended over 10 blocks – but the retail area has now expanded to a total of 16 blocks. The area also has a generous collection of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and bars. There are some homes/condos in the immediate area surrounding Rice Village but within walking distance is West University, Southgate/Southampton & Southside Place with these neighborhoods having the most housing choices. Properties in Rice Village range from small brick bungalows, gated patio homes, contemporary new constructions or luxury estate homes – the choice truly is endless.

A Great Place to Live

Rice Village is a popular neighborhood for young professionals to live, work and play. “The Village” is bustling day and night. The area got its name after Rice University, which is just half a mile away. The neighbourhood is conveniently near Upper Kirby, Greenway Plaza, and the prestigious West University as well is minutes away from the Museum District and a shortdrive to both Uptown and Midtown.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation

Rice Village is close to Fleming Park. Fleming Park has two full tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, and a playground. There are various community activities that also take place in the pavilion.

Shops In Rice Village

Rice Village contains over 300 shops, bars and restaurants. The Village is host to dozens of restaurants. Along with traditional eateries there are restaurants specializing in food from all over the world – including French, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Turkish, Mexican, Spanish, Mediterranean, Vietnamese, Indian, and Thai restaurants. There are also sandwich shops, delicatessens, and speciality food and beverage stores. The area is known as a local shopping destination. The Village has the staples like Gap Kids, Gymboree, Banana Republic and Urban Outfitters. Its expansion has brought in high-end clothing stores and nationwide retail venues.

Education

Rice Village area is in zone to the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Residents are close to Poe Elementary School, Lanier Middle School (a top ranking middle school that has a Vanguard program for gifted students) and Lamar High School. Lamar High School is among the best schools in the Greater Houston area and is an IB World School.
