In addition, Rice Military is practically next door to Memorial Park. Located about 4 miles west of Downtown Houston, Rice Military is nestled in the area east of Memorial Park. The Washington Corridor, stretching from Memorial Park to the Downtown area, is lined with a wide variety of wine lounges, upscale restaurants, bars, lounges and cafes. The bigger area commonly referred to as Rice Military/Washington Avenue or Washington Corridor is south of Katy Freeway, east of Washington and Westcott, north of the Buffalo Bayou and Memorial Drive; and west of Sawyer Street. Major business and employment districts are easily accessible from Rice Military – for example, Downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center, and Greenway Plaza are all within minutes of the neighborhood.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation in Rice Military

Rice Military homes are only a few blocks away from Houston’s largest urban park – Memorial Park. Nellie Keyes Park is also located in Rice Military. It has a playground and a trail system.

Shopping in Rice Military

Rice Military is only minutes away from Houston’s world-famous Galleria mall. The Galleria, is Texas’ largest shopping center and fourth largest, nationally. The Galleria has over 400 shops and restaurants beneath its stunning atriums, two high-rise hotels, three office towers and a full-size ice-skating rink. The mall’s anchor stores include Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., Nordstrom, Burberry, Gianni Versace and Cartier Nordstrom and Macy’s.

Education

Rice Military is zoned to the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Residents in Rice Military are zoned to Memorial Elementary School, Hogg Middle School and Lamar High School. Lamar High School and Hogg Middle School are both amongst the best schools in the Greater Houston area and are IB World Schools. Rice Military also has many notable private schools nearby.

Rice Military homes are relatively more affordable than properties in adjacent neighborhoods. The neighborhood offers a wide variety of home options, ranging from patio homes, single-family homes, and new construction townhomes. Properties for sale in Rice Military can start at around $300,000 and can go up to more than $1,000,000. Rice Military has continued to be popular due to security, luxury gated communities, an active civic club, good schools, exciting outdoor activities and its proximity to key Houston districts like Downtown, Memorial Park, and the Galleria.
