Greater Heights

An Upscale Residential Neighborhood

The Greater Heights neighborhood includes a large, mostly-residential community only minutes away from Downtown. The upscale residential homes and its close proximity to the city center (including effortless access to three of the major interstate highways) makes Greater Heights a very sort-after neighborhood for commuters looking for the tranquility of a suburban location without sacrificing on convenience. A plethora of historical properties date back into the region's heyday as a popular holiday location for some of Houston's elites from the 19th century. Today these building contribute to the neighborhood's timeless atmosphere.

A Great Place to Live

Headlined by the well-known Houston Heights, Greater Heights has gone through a significant amount of redevelopment over the previous two decades. At present it includes excellent subdivisions with a small-town vibe, well-kept lawns, tree-lined roads and a diverse selection of beautiful single-family houses, town-homes and bungalows. Centered around Houston Heights, many subdivisions in the Greater Heights neighborhood are within the Inner Loop. Greater Heights has experienced some great real estate appreciation within Houston, due to the neighborhood allowing easy access to Houston's four major job centers (The Medical Center, The Galleria, Downtown Houston and The Energy Corridor.)

Situated on North Main, the Greater Heights transit center which is operated by Houston Metro, serves as a hub for both outgoing and incoming routes. Riders have access to routes which travel all across the city and other places which Metro services. The average cost of living in the neighborhood has increased through the last few years and continues to do so due to it being a very sort-after neighborhood to live in. On average, one-bedroom apartments rentals can begin at $1000 and grow upwards to $3000.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation

Greater Heights residents can enjoy the Mamion Park which was built in the late 1800s. The Heights Association has continued working to conserve it. Initially the location of “Cooley Mansion”, the property was later demolished before then being transformed to a park. The Mansion was among the first properties in its locality to use electricity. Donovan Park, yet another alternative, was constructed in the 1960s and includes a playground for children to enjoy. Both parks function as architectural landmarks and serves to bring community members together. In addition, the parks have the option to be rented out for events at a fee, and the two are both dog friendly.

Shopping

The variety of local entertainment and dining options available appeals to the diverse tastes of local residents, and with multiple well-loved cafes and stores along 19th Street, the neighborhood provides a sense of a much close-nit community as opposed to a larger community within the heart of the 4th largest city in the States.

Both the Galleria Mall and Memorial City Mall are closeby to the Heights, whilst Walmart and Target provide residents with an alternative to the local speciality stores. For grocery shopping, HEB and Kroger is located near I-10. Both stores mail out their weekly circulars with special offers and frequent sale items. Residents who prefer buying from farmers markets may frequent the Canino Produce Co., which spans over 20,000 square feet of space and offers a multitude of home-grown products.
