Braeswood Place

A Welcoming Community

Braeswood Place is a mostly single-family community within the 610 Loop, east of Bellaire, south of Southside Place and West University Place, west of the Texas Medical Center and the Old Braeswood, neighborhood and also north of Linkwood and Knollwood Village. Braeswood Place is home to approximately 2,200 residential properties and contains seven subdivisions: Ayrshire, Braes Heights, Braes Oaks, Braes Manor, Braes Terrace, Emerald Forest, and Southern Oaks. Homes for sale in Braeswood include tree-lined roads, a welcoming community, and close proximity to both Rice University and Texas Medical Center.

A Great Place to Live

Many of the newer homes in Braeswood Place have been built by existing residents who love their community and simply do not want to move but require additional space. All of the newly constructed houses and several of the renovated houses have been raised on a higher foundation for extra protection against the chances of another incident like Tropical Storm Allison.

The heart of the area is the community center, comprising of the McGovern-Stella Link Branch of the Houston Public Library, the Weekley Family YMCA, a field for the West University Little League, and a senior services center. Residents collectively donated nearly $350,000 for the renovation of Karl Young Park including new playground equipment, landscaping and drainage.

Parks and Outdoor Recreation

Located within the neighborhood is Karl Young Park. It comprises a 60-foot baseball field, full tennis court, three full court basketball courts, three half court basketball courts, a trail system, two playgrounds and a picnic pavilion. The park is less than 5 acres in size. Helen's Park, named after Helen Dallerup Williams is also local, as well as The John P. McGovern Campus Park situated along Underwood Street, and Stella Link Park, part of a $42 million project which houses Sheltering Arms, a senior services facility costing $9 million.

Shopping

The Braes Heights Shopping Center, is situated in the neighboring City of Southside Place. In 2012 the Houston Press rated the center “Best Strip Mall” of 2012. Braes Heights had been described as "In many ways, more like Rice Village than Rice Village" itself, due to many well-known small businesses moving from Rice Village by 2012. Vanderbilt Square is another shopping center which is located nearby, erected in 1995. You can also find Randall's Food Markets and a Barnes & Noble bookshop anchoring the center.

Education

Close to McGovern Park are two Houston Independent School District (HISD) schools; John J. Pershing Middle School and Mark Twain Elementary School. The first Mark Twain campus constructed in the 1950s was demolished to make way for a brand new campus in 2006. The first Pershing Middle School campus was also demolished and replaced by a brand new campus which opened its doors in January 2007. You will find The Rice School, a magnet public school, is situated east of Braeswood Place.

Some areas of Braeswood Place north of the Brays Bayou (such as Braes Oaks, Braes Heights, and Ayrshire) are zoned to Twain Elementary. South of the bayou (such as Braes Terrace and Braes Manor) are zoned to Longfellow Elementary. Longfellow sits within Braes Manor Section 1. Areas of Braeswood Place are zoned to Pershing Middle and students zoned to Pershing can apply to Pin Oak Middle School's (of Bellaire) program.

Those east of Stella Link (such as Braes Heights and Braes Oaks) are zoned to Lamar High School in Upper Kirby, whilst those west of Stella Link or south of Brays Bayou are zoned to Bellaire High School.
